Everyone loves dessert. Some of us may love it more than others, and we often love it to a fault. Most of the time, we think of dessert as a treat, a cheat, or something not to repeat. However, I think that we should all be comfortable enjoying the occasional dessert without feeling guilty. Whether you have a sweet tooth or are simply accommodating someone who does, here are a few of my favorite healthier dessert recipes.

Sugar-Free Stuffed Baked Apples

Sugar-free usually equates in my mind to tasteless, but these apples truly remind me of an autumnal crumble. Made of only four ingredients (apples, walnuts, oats, and dried cranberries), this dessert is not only healthy, but easy and affordable, too. Next time you go to the store, stock up on the dry ingredients and maybe buy a few apples. Anytime you feel the need to eat something sweet, pop one of these in the oven and your daydreams of Ben & Jerry’s will melt away.

Orange-Banana Smoothie Pops

Sometimes, you want something cold and refreshing to finish your meal. These pops will satisfy your chilly craving with a delicious smoothie twist. While I am a fan of making fresh smoothies, I admit that they can become bland after awhile. The texture of smoothie pops is what sets them apart, and they are as easy to make as a smoothie itself. Here’s a tip: you can easily swap out the fruit for nearly any fruit you like, but I suggest choosing strawberries or another fruit that has a smooth texture.

Chocolate Mousse-Filled Strawberries

One big gripe with desserts is how much dairy is in them. Whether you are vegan or lactose intolerant, this can cause a problem every time you try a new treat. This recipe is full of flavor, but, fortunately, does not contain dairy. These treats are also quite small, so although you do add sweetener, you are unlikely to overdo it, even if you use sugar. Plus, you can keep the strawberries for a few days in the fridge, as long as you can stop yourself from eating them all.

Salted Caramel Skillet Cookie

You know when you go out to a restaurant and they have a dessert you think you could never replicate? For many of us, that is the skillet cookie. I have always been afraid of burning the bottom and edges, or of it being too doughy in the center. However, following this salted caramel skillet cookie recipe, you will have no problem recreating this restaurant-worthy dish, all while staying healthy.

Dessert and healthy do not often go together, but these four recipes will ensure you stay close to your diet without sacrificing your treat at the end of the day.
